Discover the Evolution of Ceres Koekedouw Dam
Ceres, South Africa, is renowned for its lush orchards and breathtaking mountain landscapes. Yet, hidden within this picturesque setting lies a story of two remarkable reservoirs that have fascinated engineers for generations.
The Original Ceres Dam, built in 1953, was a testament to engineering excellence.
In 1969, an earthquake caused damage to the dam’s wall and eventually in 1986, the dam was deemed unsafe, initiating the need for a larger replacement.
The Expansive Ceres Dam Project, initiated in 1996, marked a pioneering effort in Africa. The inauguration of the new Koekedouw Dam took place on May 15, 1999.
